How much does Guinness World Records pay for record-breakers?
The Guinness Book of World Records was first published in 1955 and has been a best-seller year after year ever since.
If you have a particular skill and want to try to break a record, surely one of the first questions that comes to mind is how much to pay for a Guinness World Record.
Contrary to what many people believe, there is no economic consideration for inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records.
So you do not get a single euro, pound or dollar for a record. But apart from the money, you get great recognition and the pride of being the best at something.
The institution's rules state that both those who break an existing record and those who set a new record receive no remuneration.
Guinness World Records said
For these reasons, we do not pay record breakers for their achievements or for making an official record attempt. We also do not cover any costs, provide any sponsorship or provide any equipment for them to conduct an official record attempt.
In addition, we do not make contributions to individuals, charities or corporations.
This is done to maintain our impartial stance as the world's record registration authority and to ensure the inclusion of all applicants
In the vast majority of cases, however, record protagonists have advertisers or sponsors who finance their preparation.
